After serveral years of running LilyPond on the web as an experiment we have finally closed this service. Our server did not find a sponsor and there are excellent alternatives available.

Thanks to all who used our service and shared hints and insights with us.

Keep on with writing wonderful music engraved on beautiful music sheets.

Update to Lilypond 2.19.83

WebLily.net now runs Lilypond 2.19.83. I decided to update once more to an unstable version since 2.20 (the next stable version) is not out yet.

Now using vector graphics (SVG)

As of today Lilypond scores are rendered with Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). Gives nicer and sharper rendering of scores. No more pixel graphics.

Update to Lilypond 2.19.55

WebLily.net now runs Lilypond 2.19.55.

This version fixes several issues with overlapping notation symbols that were introduced since the last stable version. In the future I will only update to the next stable version. Hope, that the next stable version 2.20.0 will be out soon.

After quite some time I've found time and energy to give Weblily.net an update.

I've changed my setup, so that updates to Weblily.net with new upcoming versions of Lilypond will take less effort than before. So I hope to be able to follow major updates in the future more closely. All those that asked for it: You have been listened to.
Improved Stability via scorio's Lilypond engine
Weblily usees the Lilypond engine of scorio.com. The scorio engine runs Lilypond considerably faster and is much more stable. So hopefully you will not see "Server Overloaded" messages ever again. However, be prepared to see other messages for what reaseon so ever. I keep working.
Audio plaback for all Browsers via MIDI.js
The playback option is now working again with all(?) current browsers. I integrated the Javascript library MIDI.js that takes advantage of sound synthesis capabilities built into modern browsers. So no plugins or add-ons are needed anymore.

Click on the editor's Facebook button to share your LilyPond scores with your friends on Facebook.

The Facebook message will contain a permalink to your score, so that your friends look at your music. There is a link on the score that will open WebLily's editor so that your friend may look at the LilyPond source and work and play with it.

Only recently (why so late?) did I come to know LilyPond, the fantastic music engraving software. Being impressed by its simplicity and its beautyful results and at times overwhelmed by the wealth of its functions and options I came up with the idea of making it available on the web.

This is an experimental project. I am exploring the realm of web programming using Google's Web Toolkit (GWT). The output is true HTML so hopefully it will run on any browser. Since I am not an experienced programmer doing this just as a hobby you might know what you'll have to expect.

Maybe people who are new to LilyPond and just want to play around with it will find this to be a useful tool, since they do not have to download and to install the software on their machines.

Currently, WebLily.net works quite well for small and medium size examples.
